History of the PFLA

Since 1987, the Patricia Freedman Literacy Academy has helped students with GED preparation, remedial reading, writing, and mathematics, computer skills, resume writing, military tests, English as a Second Language, and college entrance exams.

In 1998, PFLA received the Jeannie P. Balliles Award in Literacy from the Virginia Literacy Foundation for most outstanding community-based literacy program in Virginia. The Academy has also received the Sequoia Literacy Award.
